SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER

Substance use has reached epidemic magnitude in our society. Impaired control or compulsive engagement in a specific behavior despite knowledge of harmful consequences can prevent you from achieving your ambitions. There are many paths to recovery.

depression

DEPRESSION

Major depressive disorder is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and act. It is also treatable. Feelings of sadness and loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed can be overcome and relief from its symptoms are obtainable.

process addictions

PROCESS ADDICTIONS

The term addiction is derived from the latin addico meaning “enslaved by” or “bound to”. For many this derivative has meaning. Food, gambling, sex, shopping, technology and even exercise can become habitual, outside of conscious control and not involve the use of a drug.

SERVICES OFFERED

ACCEPTANCE COMMITMENT THERAPY

A unique empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies, together with commitment and behavior change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility means contacting the present moment fully as a conscious human being, and based on what the situation affords, changing or persisting in behavior in the service of chosen values.

DIALECTICAL BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

A cognitive-behavioral approach that emphasizes the psycho-social aspects of treatment. The theory behind the approach is that some people are prone to react in a more intense and out-of-the-ordinary manner toward certain emotional situations, primarily those found in romantic, family and friend relationships.

GOAL ORIENTED THERAPY

Goal-Oriented Therapy is a therapy that begins with the end in mind. It is not necessarily a specific form of psychotherapy, but usually it is cognitive and/or behavioral in nature. Cognitive behavioral therapy is goal-oriented and focused by definition: to correct problems in thinking and behavior that cause emotional distress and perpetuate a maladaptive pattern (strong life theme or schema).
